Before Mimeo, Jenny Craig’s Training Department ran a labor-intensive print and fulfillment operation entirely in-house. Materials were pre-printed in the corporate mailroom, organized by module, and stored in a nearby warehouse. When an order was placed, materials were shipped to the field where staff would then spend hours assembling binders on-site. It was a process that consumed significant time and resources at every step, and the sunk cost of pre-printing made updating content feel impossible. Outdated materials stayed in circulation longer than they should have simply because throwing them out meant throwing away money.
