Mimeo.com Opens New Distribution Facility in Newark

NEWARK — Mimeo.com officially opens today a new 75,000-square-foot data center and print production and distribution facility in the city’s industrial area, officials announced today.

The Memphis-based online printing services company will have 31 employees working at the facility, located at 158 Mount Olivet Ave., in AMB Property Group’s Liberty Logistics Center. The firm’s employee count is expected to triple in the next 18 months, and reach 150 workers in a few years, according to Joe Ritchie, chief executive officer of Brick City Development Corp., the city’s economic development arm. The company will receive an $840,000 grant over a 10-year period from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Business Employment Incentive Program for creating at least 150 jobs, he says.

For its expansion, Mimeo.com, which has 550 employees nationwide, had evaluated locations nationwide for its new facility, according to Andy Nied, the firm’s director of product support services. The company had seriously considered Philadelphia and Louisville, Ky. — both of which have UPS hubs that would enable the company to deliver documents and business materials overnight to customers — but ultimately focused on the New York metropolitan area, he says.

Mimeo.com looked at 70 different properties within a 15-minute radius of Newark Liberty International Airport — which has a FedEx hub — over a six-month period before taking space at the Liberty Logistics Center, Nied says. The company says it chose Newark because of its proximity to a major transportation hub; easy access to the firm’s Manhattan office; and a large, skilled labor pool.
